There are six main purposes to a music video. One of those purposes being to promote the artist or sell the song. A music video helps with this process as it is another place for the music to be played/listened to. It then therefore becomes another medium as it creates a visual representation of the artist and song. Also in creating a video for the music, the artist is broadening the platforms that their music is played on. For instance their music may only be played on the radio, however with a music video it can now be played on TV channels and YouTube. Music videos are also a way for the artist to be able to reach out to their fans as those fans that aren't able to go and see that artist live can now watch them play that song to an audience and watch how they enjoy it. It is also to increase the revenue for the record label as the music video will help to build up the popularity of the artists song which will lead to more people buying the song, therefore bringing in money to the record label and music videos help with the opportunities for synergy.
